For the end of the year, we set out to create an installation which addresses the approaching year and the passing of time. In the Chinese calendar, which cycles through the Zodiac signs every twelve years, 2025 is the year of the snake. Like every other animal in the Zodiac scheme, the snake is attributed distinct characteristics. Being a protector of fortunes and a symbol for transformation and growth are prevalant characteristics of the snake zodiac. As a way to celebrate the new year, we created an interactive installation highlighting the snake in the new gallery of UltraSuperNew in Shibuya.

At first, visitors see snakes revolve around a planet-like sphere as if protecting it. Like winding a clock, you can spin a knob installed in front of the projections to transform the snakes positions and paths. The further you spin the knob, the more freely the snakes float through the three-dimensional space around the sphere.
By pushing down the knob, you can trigger visual changes in the sphere including a lunar eclipse animation and color changes. The soundscape accompanying the installation created by Haruna Akashi reminds of the everlasting passing of time with a steady clock-like rhythm. The unison of the real-time animations and the ethereal music makes for a hypnotizing and calming experience.
